Our Point of View
No more nonsense
Jack and I (Dale here) started Custom Analysis (CA) because we saw time and time again that government contractors and consultants would spend an incredible amount of time, effort, and money on work that didn’t matter.
Here are some examples:
Boring “status update” PowerPoints and Weekly Activity Reports (WARs) that never showed any substantial progress being made
Flashy analytics or dashboards that didn’t actually help executives make decisions
Full days worth of meetings where team members are checked out, unsure what the client wants, and generates few relevant action items
Outcomes first
We hated doing work that never generated results, so instead, we decided to help our clients by working with them to identify the desired business outcomes first and only then, figure out options that could help them achieve those outcomes.
Here’s what that looks like:
Analytics:
Other companies: Client requests an “automated dashboard” and then a contractor builds it. It’s three months late and the client never uses it.
Custom Analysis: CA works with the client to identify the key organization decision that needs to be made and then, figure out what information is needed to help make that decision, and only then, figure out the right solution. It could be a one page report with some key findings or potentially a Tableau dashboard. Client uses the analysis to recommend key investment for his agency.
Other companies: Client requests a “status update” on several high level programs they are funding. Contractor updates the same PowerPoint deck that’s been used for years with some schedule updates and funding burn. Takes a month and everyone falls asleep during the meeting
Custom Analysis: CA works with the client and learns funding is being reduced so they need to find ways to reduce spend on the key programs while minimizing mission impact. CA puts together a one page report that identifies the top three areas of redundancy across the programs, potential savings, and mission impact of the cuts.
SETA/Program Management
Why are we different?
Allergic to BS: This affects how we work (see above) with our clients. While we are professional and tactful, we make sure to keep our clients focused on things that actually matter, not just random activity.
We recruit smart people with the same allergy: Our company tends to attract people who know they won’t fit into a big company (too much bureaucracy) and are wary of small companies who try to imitate big companies (fluffy mission statements, etc.). As a result, our employees naturally focus on outcome based work, not just billing hours.
Here’s what we’ve come up with:
We’ve thought a lot about what makes our company different from all the other government contractors out there.
Thats it.
